Loyola Media TV channels viewers Polls results - Sun TV, Kalaignar TV, Vijay TV, Makkal TV tops

In tamilnadu, polls can change lives. We have already seen a poll few years back which broke the backbone of sun tv. Yet another poll on TV viewerships has been conducted recently.

The media science Department of Loyola College headed by professor S Rajanayagam has come out with some interesting results recently about Tele viewer ship in Tamilnadu.

The findings, conducted during September and October this year across Tamil Nadu, were collected from 3,025 respondents above 18 years old.

1. Sun TV continues to be on top with a viewer ship of 51.8 per cent2. Kalaignar TV (8.6 per cent), runner up3. KTV, from Sun network, is third with a viewer base of 7.5 per cent4. Vijay TV is fourth with 6.4 per cent5. Doordharshan’s Pothigai TV was fifth with 5.7 percent6. Sun Music, from Sun network was sixth with 4.3 percent7. Jaya TV was seventh with 4.2 percent8. Sun News, from sun network has 2.6 percent viewer ship and is eighth.9. Makkal TV has 1.1 percent viewer ship and is ninth.10. Raj TV with 0.9 percent is the tenth.

In the politically dominated Tamil satellite TV industry, the Maran brothers owned Sun TV continues to be on top with a viewership of 51.8 per cent.A distant second was Kalaignar TV (8.6 per cent) launched last year by close relatives of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. KTV, an entertainment channel from Sun network, is third with a viewer base of 7.5 per cent and Vijay TV (6.4 per cent).

Doordharshan’s Pothigai TV (5.7 per cent), Sun Music (4.3 per cent), Jaya TV (4.2 per cent), Sun News (2.6 per cent) Makkal TV (1.1 per cent) and Raj TV have a viewer base of mere 0.9 per cent, a survey by the media science department of Loyola College here said.The findings, conducted during September and October this year across Tamil Nadu, were collected from 3,025 respondents above 18 years old.

The survey revealed that Sun TV also was also dominant among the 18-25 age group with a viewer base of 44.4 per cent, while Vijay TV was second with 19.7 per cent. About 62.2 per cent of viewers, cutting across party affiliations (except PMK), watched Sun TV. The channel also led the table among viewers in providing entertainment programmes, launching new programmes and in giving intellectual programmes among others, the survey said.

In giving priority to Tamil language, Makkal TV, promoted by PMK leader Dr Ramadoss, stood first among 32.1 per cent viewers, while Sun TV was at second spot with a viewer base of 26.9 per cent

The survey further said that serials continue to dominate among viewers followed by news, cinema and commedy programmes among others

Tamil TV serial -

I have been waiting for a chance to express or articulate my thoughts about the Indian tv serials, or especially tamil tv serials . Although there are a couple of them to mention about , mostly 99% of the tv serials sucks!!! I seriously doubt that all the director's brains might have been vaporised.
Becoz almost all the serials follow the same set of rules like :
1) A family story with lot of characters as relations and unrelated branched stories.

2) The lead role - always a woman, will have the best characteristic features that nobody can find one in reality.

3) The Anti-heroine/hero role - mostly a woman again,possess all the worst characteristic features, will take revenge on the woman who plays the main role.

4) A definite love track.

5) A useless husband / father / brother ... the male character!!!

6)A delay of time with the dialogue deliveries between the characters which makes obvious that they does not know ABC about acting.

7) The most horrible thing is the background music which really gets into my nerves.

8) Comedy series : in which somebody will always laugh behind the scenes.(Probably the director feels that it is a comedy)

9) Some suspense thrillers which are supposed to be scary are very funny,predictable and in fact you can see these type of serials if u wanna watch a good comedy serial.

10) Duration of a serial is 30 minutes. But is actually telecasted only for 15minutes. Rest of the time is for title song at the beginning and a 2 or 3 commercial breaks in between.

11)The commercials... oh my god! i could add another bunch of points about it. But i dont wanna bore u like these serials.And the lists does not end here... :-))
